Cleaning Day

Well tomorrow is cleaning day at my house in preparation for our company arriving, my cleaning service will be here around 9am.  Bet you all wish that you could access the same service I use!
She has her own transportation and will bring her own cleaning products if you want her to.
We'll be taking a break around 1:15pm so that she can go to the program at the library and I'm going to the UPS Store Grand Re-Opening.  Buffy is really excited about the grand re-opening of her store after being put out of the building due to the fire at the Purple Pig more than a year ago.
Anyway, here's the advertising photo taken two years ago of my cleaning service....contact me if you think you'd like to try her out!
By the way, the company I have coming wouldn't care if there was dust in my house, as long as my crafting room was accessible...LOL!

Lots More Participation for the Challenge - Are You In?

Stay with me on this post because it's long given that I took time out to smell the roses.  You'll find it worth the read if you do.

Christine's entry makes good use of her scraps of patterned paper which she's assembled together as her focal point.  The colour of the border as well as both the card base and centrepoint anchor and complement the many colours of the central focal point.  The gem in the centre is a nice touch too.

Now who would have thought these colours would be condusive to Hallowe'en?  Madison has nicely incorporated a Cuttlebug folder in the background to bring the fall flavour of Hallowe'en into this card.

Bernice's card makes you want to run and get your flip flops out and enjoy the sunshine.  This would be a lovely summer card to receive.

Diane has employed a number of techniques in her lovely card.  She's cut her focal piece out with an oval Spellbinders Nestability, but left the die on as she inked the edges with Tim Holtz Distress Inks.  She's also used a white pen to draw your eye to the scallops.  The border punch gives balance to the card and supports the birthday greeting.

Madison appears to have been inspired by her greeting and has die cut a number of birds to follow that theme.  I like the way the border punch was used to give the picket fence concept.

Carol has a lovely summer theme going here.  I love butterflies so this one sets my creative juices flowing.  Love the way the border punch became the trellis work for the flower to cling to.

Would you like to be the bride that receives this card?  What a fun theme Becky has used for a wedding card.

Madison has put her challenge colours together well in this card.  The use of black to solidify and anchor the colours was very effective.

Bernice used her border punch well in this card as the background to her cottage scene.  You can almost smell the mountain air as you look at it!

Becky made a lovely shower/baby card ensemble for her interpretation of the blog challenge.  What a great card for a Mom-to-be or a new Mom.  Did you spot her border punch on the pocket trim?  How subtle was that.  It shows that you don't have to use much to folow the rules of the challenge.
Carol once again used butterflies as her theme with the focus more on the butterfly this time than on the vines it's resting on.  We see the same border punch, but now giving the illusion of a fence rather than a trellis.

We again have the Hallowe'en theme going on here.  (Can you tell a Mom and daughter were working on their challenges together...LOL).  Becky has used the Fall Cuttlebug folder in the background and then added some fun die cuts in front of the fence, with some scary stuff hanging down. A fun card.

Yvonne learned at one of our classes how to use the border punch to edge her card for a different effect.  Her subtle use of the colour yellow on both the edes of the card and for the body of the butterfly are very effective.

The design and creation of a card takes time to come to fruition particularly when there are many elements to it.  Lynda has used a number of different techniques in her card here.  From Cuttlebug to background stamping fill and the oh so slightly visible ribbon at the bottom giving another texture to this card.  Not to miss the interesting cut out of the birthday saying either.

Well I know this posting has been long, but hopefully well worth the read through with many elements to inspire you in your creativity too.
Don't forget that there's only a couple more days if you're wanting to enter this challenge.  It closes on Monday July 11th at 5:00pm.

Taking Time to Smell the Roses

Well there are lots of entries to put on the blog for the latest challenge, but you know what I did instead?  I took time to stop and smell the roses.
My dear sister-in-law shared a photo with me of her roses,  it made me think of how you should sometimes get off the treadmill and take time out!  That's what I've done the last two nights instead of posting the entries last night I went at quarter to nine with the family for an ice cream cone.......ooohhh aaahhh...it was good.  The ice cream and the fellowship too.  Not to worry I thought, I'll get them posted tonight.
Well there's another saying...the best laid plans of mice and men oft times go astray.  Well they did tonight too, because my dear hubbie said...do you want to go for a walk....so we did.  Picked up two more stragglers on the way who came home for tea and another evening slips by.  Oh and I saw my niece had posted on facebook that the Canadian Mens Eight rowing team had placed third in Lucerne Switzerland, so naturally I had to do a little surfing to find my nephew's photo.  He's the coxwain in the boat and was in the last Olympics helping to bring home a gold for Canada in 2008.  He's hoping for another in 2012 and this is the journey he's on now.
HOWEVER....I digress.  Back to the posting.  It will FOR SURE be done tomorrow at the latest.  In the meantime...let me share the lovely roses with you and hopefully you'll take time to stop and smell them too.

How Perfect is This?

When you have a Canada Birthday it's pretty special to start with, just as a Christmas Day birthday would be for example.  How perfect then to have such a talented Mommy to make a special flag card for you.
That's what our Rachel experienced on her Canada Day birthday when she received this card that her Mommy made for her.
We had just re-taught this card a few days before in a class for some ladies so it was front and centre in Linda's mind and perfect for Rachel.  Rachel keeps her special cards, so wasn't about to let me take it to the store for display, but I did manage to have it for a few moments to take these photos.
Hope you enjoy looking at them, even if you are not able to have the touchy feely experience.

Can you see the flag poking up from the centre?  When you pull the front right and the back left of this card the flag magically appears from the middle....really cool!

We Have Two More Challengers!

There is now less than a week left to enter our Blog Challenge!  We hope that you are working on your own entries and that you'll enjoy the craftsmanship of these latest paper crafters.

A border punch doesn't have to be used as a border adhered to your card - just look at what Martha has done!  Leaving the border "attached" to her card shows what a creative crafter she is.  Take a close look at the buds Martha has stamped and coloured and you'll see a delicate sparkle from the Stickles she has applied.  A beautiful card Martha - thanks for your entry!

Our friend Tammy is truly a paper crafter since she has entered both a scrapbook layout and now a card!  She makes it sound so easy: "I had to make my son a birthday card tonight as his birthday is tomorrow and I thought....why not follow the colours for the challenge and throw in a border punch.....then I can have a second entry!"  And what child wouldn't be thrilled with this card!  Thanks Tammy!

Don't forget that the clock is ticking!  Our challenge closes next Monday at 5pm!

Blog Challenge Entries

Entries are starting to come in for our latest Blog Challenge!  Have you started working on your card, craft project, scrapbook layout, jewelry piece?  Perhaps you'll find some more inspiration from the entries shown here.

Tara seems to be in love with animals of late and is certainly having a "Hoot" with them.  Tara's three cards all fit our simple criteria of colours and a border punch.

Three certainly seems to be a magic number as Bev too sent us three entries.  These entries are an example of how you can incorporate a small amount, a bit more or a lot of each of our required colours.

And finally, Tammy has entered our our first scrapbook layout for this Blog Challenge.  I love how Tammy tucked her border punched strip into the layout so that it is just quietly there but would leave a hole if it hadn't been included.

Thank you ladies for your entries!  Remember that you have just one week left to be a part of this blog challenge!

Happy Canada Day!

Hopefully you all enjoyed this lovely Canada Day.  The weather was gorgeous and we were able to enjoy another family BBQ on the deck at Linda's home.  With both sets of family together it makes for a lovely time of sharing.
Rachel of course was basking in the joy of her birthday today.....telling all who would listen that today was her birthday and there would be lots of fireworks later to celebrate the day!
Here's the card I made for her to enjoy.  It's a gift card holder large enough to hold a small extra surprise gift not only inside but on the outside too.

Did you check out the cards that we made at card class on Thursday?  Hop on over to our flickr site to see them.  It's always good to enjoy the ladies pleasure as they learn some new techniques, or even re-visit techniques they've done in the past.  Have you ever thought of joining us for Thursday night card class, it really is a great time of learning and yet downtime too?
